Netflix is video on demand service, that already competes with old-style broadcasting or cable television. More than 40 million people watch video over the Internet in HD quality and even higher. Why did Netflix decide to build their own CDN instead of outsourcing? Why did open source technologies namely FreeBSD and Nginx were chosen? How do Netflix and Nginx, Inc. collaborate in building software for the CDN?
